Celebrating 'Foster Care Awareness Week' with cake!
In recognition of Foster Care Awareness Week (4-10 March 2019), Youth Horizons worked with Fostering Kids to host a “Dessert Evening” at our National Office for Caregivers from multiple agencies across Auckland.
City Cake Company from Mt Eden donated 2 stunning cakes and the rest of the dessert buffet was donated by staff from our National Office. The dessert buffet looked STUNNING – we had a total of 15 desserts of every kind imaginable. Even a chocolate fountain which the kids were instantly drawn to!
A 10-yr old girl who came along with her Caregiver led the karakia which was very special. Each of the Caregivers introduced themselves to the group which led to some new connections being made. Amongst the Caregivers were a retired couple who were fostering a 7-month old, a married couple aged 22 who were about to start fostering with us and a woman with 5 biological children and 5 whāngai children who was celebrating her 27th year of fostering on that day.
The Caregivers left feeling valued, appreciated and very full!
Thank you very much to the very generous City Cake Company for their delicious contribution to such a fun evening!
