Foster Care Awareness Week 2022
Although celebrations have been pared back this year due to Covid-19, Youth Horizons | Kia Puāwai gifted each caregiver a plant, gift voucher and thank you card to acknowledge the extraordinary contribution they make to the lives of tamariki and rangatahi.
It has been a particularly challenging time to navigate the complexities of a pandemic, but one thing has remained unchanged – the commitment and aroha of our foster carers.
Juliet Erihe, Director of Operations Auckland and Te Tai Tokerau says our foster care programme is life-changing for young people. Here are some thoughts from her:
“Our foster carers are truly unique and bring with them a diverse life experience that has drawn them to caregiving. However, the key aspects that makes great caregivers is the way they live our values: manaakitanga, wairuatanga, whanaungatanga and aroha. Foster Care Awareness Week is a great opportunity to acknowledge these caregivers and their wider whānau, and I just want to say a big thank you to them all. Always remember that although you may not get to see the flower in bloom, the seed you plant today will still have opportunity to blossom long after you were in its presence."
An important part of what Kia Puāwai does is to find those rare and wonderful people who make fabulous caregivers. Coinciding with Foster Care Awareness Week is our recruitment ad campaign on Facebook and Instagram. If you know of anyone who would like to learn more about becoming a foster carer, check out www.fostercare.co.nz or fill out the form on Facebook.
