Minister Martin attended a hui in our Auckland office to share her visions, and hear some stories of our rangatahi.

We were pleased to welcome the Minister for Children, Hon Tracey Martin, to our National Office in Mt Wellington.

She met with Board Chair, La-Verne King, Chief Executive, Marion Heeney and senior leadership team members, following a welcome led by our Kaumātua Pita Te Ngaru.

The Minister spoke of her vision and plans for rangatahi. After Minister Martin spoke, we presented her with some case studies of young people who have experienced hugely positive turn-arounds since being in our programmes. The Minister took some questions from our senior leadership team about the social services sector in relation to children and young people, and her views on evidence-based models across the sector. Youth Horizons champion the use of evidence-based models in New Zealand, so this was of particular interest to our senior leaders and board chair.

Minister Martin also gave a helpful insight into how the sector might best serve the needs for mokopuna Māori, another of Youth Horizons’ strong interests and organisational strategic goals.

We would like to thank the Minister and her staff for attending the meeting, and look forward to further developing our relationship over the coming year.
