The West Auckland Time Capsule project provides an opportunity to capture, record, safeguard and share the dreams and hopes of today’s youth with the rest of their community, with the intention that they will be opened and shared in 15 years.

Taking the lead from Youth Week’s 2015 theme “We Are The Future” the West Auckland Time Capsule project provides an opportunity to capture, record, safeguard and share the dreams and hopes of today’s youth with the rest of their community, with the intention that they will be opened and shared in 15 years.

6 Capsules have been created and are currently on display at Glen Eden Library, New Lynn Library, Ranui Library, Waitakere Central Library (Henderson), Massey Library and Avondale Library. AND… when all 6 capsules are combined they create a picture of ONE WHARE - representing the voice of our West Auckland youth!

The capsules include video logs (also stored on USB to be watched in 2030) of youth interviewed from Youth Horizons Youth Service West, Ranui Action Project, Zeal, and Creative Souls Project (CSP). They also include written letters from selected youth ambassadors.

Pretty exciting to think this Taonga will be in place for our communities and their young people in 2030!!
