We are delighted to congratulate our former Board Chair (now Deputy Chair), La-Verne King, on her appointment as District Court Judge in Northland. This is a huge accolade for La-Verne – and a very well deserved one.
La-Verne was admitted to the Bar in 1989 and, along with two other lawyers, established the first Māori and Pasifika women law firm, KAM Legal in 1994. She then returned North and opened Doubtless Bay Law in 2007, where she continues to be based. She has been on the Youth Horizons board of trustees since 2012 and stepped back into the Deputy Chair position earlier last year as she was asked by the Minister of Justice, the Hon. Andrew Little, to be a member of the Family Court review.
La-Verne will be sworn in on 31 May and will also have jurisdiction as a Family Court Judge.
She has been and will continue to be a wonderful advocate and supporter of our organisation and we wish her all the best for her new role.
