Teaching Group Homes
Teaching group homes offer community-based short to medium term care for young people, including those with conduct problems, in a family-like setting.
The homes use the Teaching-Family Model (TFM) to help young people reach their potential and equip them with the skills they need to be successful at school and within the wider community. At its core, family-style relationships are seen as essential to the healthy development of social and interpersonal skills that lead to learning, goal setting and success in young people.
Youth Horizons | Kia Puāwai uses the TFM model in five homes in the North Island. Three homes provide care for boys/young men - Te Whare Tumanako O Kia Puāwai in Auckland, Hamilton House and Te Pania in Napier. Waipuna in Tauranga provides care for young women, while Auckland-based Te Kāinga provides care for young mums and their babies.
